KALARI KAUR: ORIGINS
Explores Meena's motivations for fleeing Kerala, and how she comes to be the anonymous migrant worker we first meet looking for work in the Punjab in the KALARI KAUR feature project.

This short film's primary goal was to introduce the martial art Kalari and our wonderful lead actor Anjali to potential Co-Producers and Investors.

Shot over 5 days with a crew of just 3, on a Sony A7 and a next-to-nothing budget, it was also a fantastic opportunity to get an insight in how to film Kalari - this fantastically dynamic martial art - up close.

While it was never the intention, eager for some general feedback KALARI KAUR: ORIGINS was submitted to 15 Indian festivals from May 2025. Accepted by 13, it accumulated 10 awards!

Demonstrating there is an audience for Kalari certainly within India, the reception to our humble short film is excellent motivation to complete the full feature KALARI KAUR, and pursue our goal to make Kalari as famous globally as the many martial arts it gave rise to.
